The day started with rain and high winds which prevented us opening any nets this morning. It brightened up throughout the day but strong northeasterlies continued. The Moose (Älg), which has been seen sporadically throughout the past couple of weeks was seen again in the forest near Batteri, and a Cuckoo (Gök) was seen in flight near the obs.

The day started fairly calm but the wind picked up to a brisk northeasterly by late morning. 19 birds were ringed today. Two Peregrine Falcons (Pilgrimsfalk) flew over the obs mid-morning.

In line with soaring temperatures across much of western and northern Europe, today reached 30c here, the hottest day of the year so far. Around 150 Painted Ladies (Tistelfjäril) were seen north of the obs today – we have seen another big surge of this species in the last two days after the main arrival in June. 20 birds were ringed this morning, including an adult male Scarlet Rosefinch (Rosenfink).

7 birds were ringed this morning, which started off with heavy cloud and some drizzle but by late morning this had cleared and the rest of the day was sunny and warm. A total of 12 Red-veined Darter (Vandrande ängstrollslända) were seen between Bredmar and Saltmar today, the highest total so far.

Today started off dry but the weather finally gave way around midday with a series of thunderstorms. A flock of eight Grey Plovers (Kustpipare) flew west and the first Southern Hawker (Blågrön mosaikslända) of the year was seen at Branddammen. Ten birds were ringed.

Unexpectedly high winds this morning meant that again we were not able to open the nets. A Red-veined Darter (Vandrande ängstrollslända) was found at Bredmar and would represent the first record for the island. 28 Northern Brown Argus (Midsommarblåvinge) were seen between Våta Vägen and Landsorts Batteri. The first Swift (Tornseglare) chicks were heard calling from one of the nestboxes on the obs , hopefully it won't be too long before we see the first juveniles flying around!

Today started with a fresh westerly wind which got stronger as the morning progressed, all of the nets were closed at 10am as the wind picked up. A very intense thunderstorm hit us in the late afternoon and the rain lasted a little over an hour before relenting, leaving quite a lot of standing water. In other news we harvested the first produce from the obs veg patch, which is loving the rain at the moment!

A cooler day all round started off dry but rain started at around 08:00 and continued at varying intensities all day. At around 09:00 after closing the nets a huge number of Swifts (Tornseglare) descended to feed, with over a thousand birds wheeling around the obs, they then disappeared as suddenly as they had arrived when the cloud lifted. A couple of smaller groups of several hundred also headed north over the obs later on. Eight birds were ringed before nets were closed early due to the rain.

Persistent westerlies all day prevented any mist netting. The only sighting of note was a possible Honey Buzzard (Bivråk) which was seen drifting south towards the obs mid-morning, but it turned and disappeared to the north before we got clinching views.
